Indications have emerged that the Akwa Ibom State governor, Mr Udom
Emmanuel, may be nursing the idea of selling off the private jet
acquired by his predecessor, Godswill Akpabio for the state government,
as he does not seem to see the state ownership of a private jet a
worthwhile investment, Vanguard reports.
However, the governor’s spokesman, Ekerete Udo, in a veil denial, described the report as innuendos and manufactured lies.
It was also gathered that the governor, since his inauguration on May
29, 2015, prefer travelling by chartered helicopters which he considers
less-flamboyant.
A Government House source, quoted by the report, said the governor
was shopping for buyers of the jet to relieve him of the burden of
fuelling and other maintenance.
“Governor Emmanuel is not comfortable with the idea of sustaining the
ownership of the jet and is contemplating selling it, more so, because
of the slash in states’ allocations and the high cost of aviation fuel,”
the source said.
However, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and
Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ekerete Udo, in a telephone chat with DAILY
POST, said there are some issues he will not normally respond to because
innuendos and manufactured lies are not the kind of things he responds
to.
“We are not in the business of responding to innuendos and
manufactured lies and answering people trading layers of lies in order
to get wings to fly. We are in the business of providing service to the
good people of Akwa Ibom State and impacting lives. We are impacting
lives by continuing with the developmental strides that have been
witnessed in the past eight years. We want to continue on this path of
sustainable development”, Udo said.
When asked if his position was that the reported imminent sale of the
jet was false, Udo replied: “I have just answered your question; I said
we will not dignify manufactured lies”.
